Mix Up

Here's the can I opened while preparing for dinner tonight:

Tasty, right?

Only one problem...

Well played WalMart. Well played.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

P.S. Not all was lost, I did find a can of diced tomatoes hiding in the back of the cupboard that was 1 month from expiration.

Parliament ROCKS!

This is totally random but I was just telling Scott that I wish our C-SPAN (which I grew up watching) was more like the British Parliament.

Not only would it be more entertaining to watch but, if we just got it all out there I'm willing to bet we'd get a bit more done.

Brain Dump

1. I knew my unwashed hair high messy buns would eventually be cool.
I just need bright red lipstick & skinny legs.

2.
Anyone else excited about casting for the Hunger Games movie?
Loved the book & can't wait for the movie.

(Katniss, Peeta, Gale)

3. Love these custom family tree embroidery.
Now, I just need to learn to embroider.

4.
I don't know what it is but I'm kind of in love with this video.

The music, cinematography, concept.
And now I want be in a big water fight.
Rain, go away.
I'm SO ready for summer.

Ear Candles

When Scott & I were dating he talked me into doing ear candles with him (beeswaxwax candles you light & it's supposed to clean the wax outta your ear/toxins from your body). I guess a granola-ish roomate of his had told him about them.

Well, yesterday the kids & I were at GoodEarth & I saw some. We bought a couple & brought them home to surprise Scott.

I'm pretty sure I've finally convinced Scott the whole concept of ear candles is poppycock but it was still fun to do anyway.

In defense of Blockbuster

I love Blockbuster. IN. LOVE.

I know it's not popular- tons are shutting down. But here are a couple reasons why:

1) I just love the tactile experience of going through & touching, looking at & reading each movie.
2) I like to pick movies by their covers & the blurbs on the back.
3) Also, Scott & I love watching old movies & at Halloween we like to go through & watch all the good, old slasher movies.
4) We are impulsive people- when we get a hankering for a particular movie we want it NOW.
5) When Scott & I are excited for a movie we want to see it the day it comes out- none of this waiting for days & days to see it.

We occasionally rent from RedBox, but I'm not really impressed with their selection & we ALWAYS forget to return them right away.

Plus, take a gander at the kids section at Blockbuster vs. Redbox (100's vs 10):

Instead at Blockbuster we all left with exactly what we wanted:

Also, check out those prices. $1 for 3 day rentals for older movies/kid movies. 3 day rentals for popular/new movies- not too shabby.

What about you guys- any Blockbuster lovers out there?
What do you guys use?
What about Netflix streaming- do you wait for movies? Are there tons?

P.S. As I look through these reasons I think they are also why I like bookstores / owning books rather than an e-readers.

Embrace Messy Hair

I love having long hair, but sometimes it ends up being kinda "blah". I'm always looking for something, anything different to do with it. (cute Etsy print from this shop)

Then I ran across these posts on CUP OF JO. I'm kind of loving the messy dos.

Willie

Rob & I went to the pet store during our "Syd's-in-preschool" alone time.

While there I passed by this cage:

I thought, "Aw, whatever that is, it's cute.":

Then when the creature in the cage heard Rob & I milling around he sat up & looked at us:

And I realized he's got crazy demon eyes. But just one (eye that is).

And I looked at the note attached to his cage & it is in fact true.

He was born with one-eye!

We already have a hyperactive dog & a hermaphrodite kitty. I think adding a demon eyed, potentially albino, one-eyed ferrett to the Carter family circus would be a nice touch.

Too bad they gross me out & smell awful. Otherwise little Willy (as I named him after the Goonies "one-eyed Willie") would be snuggling with my right now.

I can't believe I'm going to tarnish my blog but...

The other day I was talking to my friends Es & Linds and somehow, please don't ask me how because I managed to mentally block it, Justin Bieber got brought up.

ME: You know, I've never heard a Justin Bieber song.
LINDS: Yes, you have. You just think it's a teenage girl singing.
ME: No, I don't think so.
ES: You totally have. Remember that song in Zumba?
ME: No (I'm usually not listening to the music, cause I'm passed out)
ES: Yes, you know. It's the one that goes, "Baby, baby, baby".

And I knew which song she was talking about because it was kinda catchy & did, in fact, sound like a teenage girl singing.

And am I the only one that thinks he looks like Amanda Bynes in She's The Man?

FOUND: Fabulous Fabrics

A hectic 9 pm visit to an awfully crowded WalMart did prove to be fruitful.

Look at the lovely (& very, very cheap) clearance fabric I found:

I envision making some baby swaddle blankets out of it.

Okay, fine I'm a tiny bit baby hungry.

Hell's Kitchen

I've never been into "food" shows, but in the summer there's not much on so when Scott & I want something to watch we've been turning on Hell's Kitchen on Hulu.

I wasn't a fan at first, its just SO aggressive with a lot of swearing. Does anyone out there know if this is normal chef behavior? I mean, I KNOW it's over-the-top for TV, but it's like its own culture.

But the show has grown on me.

Anyone else like Hell's Kitchen? Is it just summer so I'm looking for ANYTHING to watch?

Our Friend the Snake

We found a snake in our house & Scott is terrified of snakes. But like the manly-man he is he picked it up & took it outside.

The kids insisted he NOT kill it. They must have seen the murderous terror in Scott's eyes. So he didn't.

Two days later the SAME SNAKE was on our back porch. Sitting & waiting to come in. Scott saw it & like a manly-man he grabbed a shovel & chopped it's head off.

That night Sydney said the dinner prayer:

SYD: "Please bless that no more snakes will come & scare daddy. And please bless the snake daddy killed will go to heaven."

For all you FONT fans out there. I know I'm not alone!

He. He.

Huggie Jean Diapers

Our car was getting worked on other day, so the kids & I walked over to the Rite Aid to wander around. In my searchings, I saw these:

Am I the only one that thinks these are just a little weird?

Better rush out now people; limited series going on here.

Getting a house in winter is cool because...

... you are plesently surprised come springtime.

When we got home from Cali we were pleasantly surprised by the lovely blossoms on a tree in our backyard (any idea of what tree it could be?) plus some lovely daffodills & tulips just popped up.

My favorites are a flower I've never seen before: Double Daffodils. There are a couple weird spots where they were growing in the middle of our lawn. Scott picked them before the got trampled under the kids feet. I now have a lovely bundle for my desk. Lovely!

Soda Preference?

Okay guys, curious here (to see if I'm alone) but I'm just wondering people's soda preference.

My drink of choice has changed over the years but currently its ...

Diet Mountain Dew. Yum.

Do people love soda as much as I do?

So bad for me, yet so good for me.

P.S. I'm weird but I prefer my soda from the tap, with a straw, & a little bit of ice. Seriously... I'm a weirdo. I'll admit it. Everyday.
