How we made the Sushi costumes....

A couple people have emailed asking how we made our costumes for Halloween. I wish I had taken step by step pictures so it made more sense but here's how I made them...

For my costume I used a robe I bought in China & added a piece of cloth as an Obi Sash. I have some white knee high socks with flip flops, The hat was a tube made from poster board, stuffed with stuffing and then with white fleece sewn over it. The "seaweed" is black paper wrapped with green tulle (to make it "wet" looking and more green). The caviar on top are balloons and I sewed them to top through the little knot at the end.

Scott is a large man (which is SO not Scott) with an "I love sushi" shirt. We just bought a shirt & ironed on the writing. He wore is winter puffy coat underneath and put some stuffing for his belly. It did teach me that even if Scott gained 100 lbs I'd still love him- he'd be a cute pudgy man!

I was going to make Syd's kimono but ran out of time so we bought her a little China dress for an Asian Gifts store at our mall (it's really cute and we can use it again!). We bought her some white tights & I painted an old pair of sandels that she grew out of brown & black. I turned an old beanie into the sushi hat by covering it in white and stuffing it, then sewing it at the top. The shrimp I sewed together, stuffed, and painted (idea taked straight from this website).

Gosh, Rob is cute! I found a pair of white pants that used to be Syd's, a white beanie, white socks, & a white onesie and I dyed them all with Rit dye in "scarlet". We bought some t-shirt transfers made for dark shirts & Scott created the Soy Sauce packaging on Photoshop.

Your family was adorable for Halloween, and you even shared your tricks of the trade. Very cleaver! I just love your blog. About your next post, the red dress would be gorgeous on you and you should get it. Us hard working moms deserve something beautiful for us once in a while!
