REVIEW: Hunger Games

I read a lot but for the last few months I haven't LOVED any books I've read. BUT, that was until I picked up The Hunger Games:

Strong female protagonist, futuristic "big brother" story, a supporting cast I cared about. It was pretty violent (but the plot is violent). The few moments where I felt descriptions were quite graphic were, however, carefully placed.

I recommend it- in fact, come borrow it from me (I'm happy to share the book love) & then tell me what you think.

Has anyone out there read it? What did you think?

I loved it. It was violent but I thought it had a nice balance. There are supposed to be more!

I haven't read it, but if you are looking for some quality lit that sucks you in and is well-written too, may I recommend "Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett, "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See, and "The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Series," by Alexander McCall Smith. Not in the same genre as The Twilight books or this one you've just read, but excellent reads that I'm sure you will enjoy nonetheless.

So I have to second M - Bel Canto and Snowflower are fantastic books. I'd also recommend Water for Elephants.

I haven't read this one, but I'm intrigued. I'll have to add it to my list of reads.

Read it and LOVED it. Glad to hear you did too--some people I recommended it to didn't love it as much as I, and it made me more nervous to recommend it! I'm also totally not into any sort of violence whatsoever, and I could handle this book just fine. I can't wait for the next one, I think it's coming out in September.
