Martin Luther King is my hero. Such an amazing man with the bravery to do amazing things. I think often of his quote:
I am grateful that he encompassed this idea so wholly so the my babies can live in the world they live in today. It's not perfect, there's a lot of work to be done, but because of Martin Luther King's life & words I feel like even in my small measures I can make the world better.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

you know, this just occured to me. one thing i love about him is that he was actually fighting for something publically(wow is that not a word, it is saying its spelt wrong) that is right. something we/him/whoever/all of us should have/did fight for. whereas now a days who knows what wacko things people are going to be publically fighting for...things they should not be fighting for. but i guess people do sorta do that. but i just love how he was ready to change things to the RIGHT way of life. (inspired of course)

I love how he stood for equality and strength. Sadly, I think that is still lacking in this country. He was about making a difference in your community, and on a personal level which would extend to something bigger. Unfortunately, a lot of people seek for retribution instead of following Dr. King's example. I just think it's sad. I wish he'd been able to live longer and further advance his stance and make a bigger difference. It is so awful when such good people, who want to do something substantial, have their lives cut short, because of hate and ignorance. Dr. King was such a hero to me. He wasn't afraid to stand up to those who oppressed and whom he probably feared to some extent. He knew that what he was trying to do was more important than his own life, and there is nothing more worthy of respect than someone who lays down his life for a great cause.
This is a great post, Olivia. I am so glad that we have a National holiday to celebrate his life.
