Todays Adventure

See this kid... he's kinda cute, huh?

He looks a bit like a chubby cheeked, spikey haired cherub doesn't he?

Well, while he slumbered blissfully I was looking at this... then this...

...and then this.

Because that little cherub, decided to swallow a battery at my mom's house as I was literally watching him do it.

Our conversation:

ME: "Berto. Do you have something in your mouth? Spit it out."
ROB: "No." *gulp* "I swallowed it."
ME: "Swallowed what?"
ROB: "I don't know" *shrugs*

Well, I figured it out that it was a tiny dime sized battery. The doctor had me bring him in just to check that it didn't get lodged anywhere (since it can erode/corrode/unload in his intestines).

A doc visit & an x-ray concluded that he should pass it. AND now I have a pack of rubber gloves to go through his poop to make sure it comes out. Lovely. (kind of a shame he's potty trained it would be a lot easier if a diaper could catch the stuff)

I kind of wish this sign in the hospital bathroom had been applicable to my situation:

"Your 2 year old is a wild man & ate a battery therefore throwing away all your plans for the day? Just pull this cord for help." Alas, it didn't work.

But one good thing did come from the visit...

The only drink with caffeine (which I really needed) in the soda machine was TAB. I've never had it before but it comes in a delightful pink & red striped can. I gotta say the stuff tastes like heaven on the tongue of a stressed out mama.

So, what about you guys? Any adventures today? Ever tasted the magic that is TAB?

P.S. Okay so this isn't the first time he's swallowed something. But at least last time he didn't have the audacity to do it in front of me. I didn't know until the aftermath that he had eaten anything (& yes by aftermath I mean, in his poop)

My Hubby Loves Tab- lurvves it long time.

Sorry about the Kiddo. My sister's kid swallowed a penny. She had to do the poop duty too. Not fun. (the truth is, I think she just assumed the penny passed, and stopped looking. Not sure you can do that with a battery.)

Good luck

Oh my gosh! I am so so sorry! That sucks! I haven't had TAB in a really really long time. I think it was what Diet Coke used to be called. I made a DIFFERENT hairpiece and posted it on my blog. How does tomorrow look? Up to your elbows? Ugh, sorry. Let me know if you want to get together or if you're too busy.

ugh... maybe you could find a metal detector and just slide that over the poop before you dig in?

Wow looks like loads of fun. No wait, looks like you're going to go through loads of dodo. hehe. :>)

You know what I wonder, do you think boys do this sorta thing more often than girls? Hmm interesting.

Ugh. Yeah, I would be so tempted to throw a diaper back on him. Happy hunting is right.

I am very intrigued by TAB now. Is the soda pink too?

Do you have a little trainer potty that he could sit on for the next couple of days? One of those would be easy to fish poop out of.

I hope it comes out okay - I would have FREAKED out!

LOL at metal detector!

So is that pull cord like the easy button from Staples? Cuz if the cord doesn't work, I know Staples has plenty of easy buttons on sale.

Hope Berto has a good poop coming!!!!

Kristin D- Thanks! I'll let you know how it turns out.

Brodi- Glad to know I'm not alone in the TAB love.

Es- Yeah, it was one of those days. All you can do is laugh.

Susan- Yes! I love the hair things. You're teaching me TODAY! No if's, and's, or but's.

Kristal- Genius! Why didn't I think of that.

Debbie- Loads of doo! Yup pretty much.

Katie- Ummmm... if it was pink then I'd buy 80 cases of it & swim in it. But no, it's brown. Like Diet Coke. In fact it's ALMOST Diet Coke. Almost.

Ashley- I gotta say I didn't freak out too much. I'm kind of used to weird stuff like this happening. Just roll with the punches, laugh about it, then blog it. HA!

Christie- i know... now where to get my hands on one.

Em & Russ- I think I haven't seen that commercial. But an easy button would be great!

I'm sure things will work out with Berto (pun intended).

Tab is a diet cola produced by Coca-Cola. The company never thought the taste was good enough to be called Coke, though. When the finally came out with something acceptable to the suits, they called it Diet Coke, but Tab had very loyal and vocal fans, so they had to keep it. I had friends years ago who loved Tab, much better than regular or Diet Coke, even though one who drank it non-stop said she thought it tasted like battery acid.

Amazingly, I've never had either of my boys (or girl for that matter) swallow anything that had to be "searched out". But now that I've said that, I'm sure it will happen in the next week!

As for Tab, my grandmother used to drink it religiously, but she would pour it into an old Root Beer bottle so nobody would think she was drinking caffeine. Ha!

We had to isolate a juvenile and wait for the poop after he swallowed a master access key. Took about 4 days before he gave up.

Then the clinic sent us a medical referral... a juvenile who hadn't done anything in over a week so he was given some heavy duty medicine. We had to keep checking him to find out when he was done... thank goodness we had intercoms to the cells and we were able to isolate that wing. It didn't take long for the rest of the juveniles to decide to behave themselves and not come to Security for the next few shifts.

Mike- Yes, it is a lot like Diet Coke. But in a pretty can. I think I'm in love.

3 Kids- Man, you are LUCKY! I'll say prayers for you that no one swallows anything!

James- Wow- that is wildness. A key! BLEH! That's all jaggedly and poky. That's quite a job.

Tab was actually re-released as a diet energy drink after it was off the market for a couple of years. Or at least that's what the Coca-Cola rep told me when I was working in Whistler. Never tried it, but I've heard good things from a lot of people.
