REVIEW: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer

(A lovely picture of our Christmas tree, a fab book, & my big ol' belly)

I just finished The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer & I could NOT put it down.

"Mara Dyer doesn't believe life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong."

THINGS I LOVED:
It moved at such a pace that I could not put it down.
It was terribly romantic story- my fav part.
The dialogue was sarcastic, fast, & spot on.
It's a semi-murder mystery & a little spooky which is sorely lacking in YA.
That cover- love it.

THINGS I DIDN'T LOVE:
I thought the weakest parts of the story were the paranormal moments.
It's one of those "really good looking guys" falls for the "not popular new girl" (Gag!)
The plot got a little convoluted at the end of the story- again due to paranormal stuff.

SEMI-WARNING:
There is some language in it & a ton of really funny sexual innuendo. But if bawdy jokes bother you, you may not love a lot of the teen dialogue here (I thought it was kinda hilarious). Also it's pretty intense- mentally, emotionally, scary-wise.

Has anyone else read this?
What did you guys think?

Maybe I can be added to the list of borrowers?

Just SO said...

I just finished this and I LOVED it. It was spooky and interesting. I didn't like the language and there are times when I don't like the main character very much.
