Apple Pie

Man, oh man... usually I don't love treats that I've made- simpliy because I've been around it & tasted it through the whole process- but I have to say, this is some good apple pie! And easy enough that I didn't labor for hours. Really, easy- plus this time I cheated and used store bought crust. For apples I used half Granny Smith (because I love a little tartness) and half Jonathan Apples (they almost have a sugary taste to them too). And instead of plain old slits like a traditional apple pie I cut out a little bat shape and stars: a la Halloween! A great fall treat! Anyway, here's the recipe- ENJOY!

1 recipe Pastry for DOuble-Crust Pie
6 cups thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples (2 1/4 pounds)
1 TBS lemon jucie (I used a little bit less)
3/4 cup of sugar
2 TBS all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
little bit of milk
little bit of sugarRoll out one half of the pastry shell for the bottom
Put a little bit of lemon juice on the apples.
Stir sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add apple slices and coat.
Put apple mixture into the pastry=lined pie plate.
Trim bottom pastry to the edge.
Take top pastry and cut slits in it (I cut a bat shape and stars for the slits)
I brushed the top of the "top" crust wit milk and then sprinkled sugar on it but its optional.
bake for 375 degrees for 40 min with the edges covered in foil. Then remove the foil and bake for 20 more min.
