My best "inanimate" friend is dying!

Help! Help! After just blogging about my newly revived love affair with my ipod today it has broken. It's stuck... that's the only way I can describe it! No buttons work, plugging into the computer doesn't work, & I even tried the ipod reset secret code. Darn it all! Darn my ipod for potentially dying & darn new ipods for being so expensive! Any advice?

All I can offer are my condolences. In fact, when I read your post about having your ipod since 2005 I was jealous that it was still working for you. Mine lasted barely over two years, and that amt of time seemed to be the norm among other ipod owners. If you bring your old ipod in for a new one you can get $25 off the new purchase, but it has to be at the apple store. Actually, if you can get to the apple store, take in your old ipod and have them run a quick diagnostic on it. I don't know if that always tells them what's up (indicating if you just need to give up - which is what the case was for me), but they are pretty knowledgeable there.

it if happens to be your battery, you can order one on-line for $10 and mike knows how to replace it, there's instructions online, it's pretty easy. But, I'm guessing if it was a battery problem, you'd be able to plug it straight into the wall adapter and it'd turn on (old 2005 aren't recharged by the computer, right?) I'd do a google search of what your problem is and see what's been posted...

just a random reader here, but I might have a good source for Ipod repair. ikaput.com --that might not be the exact site, but if you google it that way you can find it-- they do repairs. If you're local to Utah you can drop it off at their store and they'll assess the problem, tell you how much it will cost to fix and you can go from there. if it's too expensive to fix they'll usually give you an offer to purchase it from you for what they think it's worth...

good luck!
