Grandma's & Chuck-A-Rama

My Nana came into town & took us all to lunch. She's the BEST & we never see her enough!
When she called to ask about dates & times she asked me to give her the address to the closest Chuck-A-Rama or Old Country Buffet. My other grandma is the same way- if we are going out to eat we go to some "down home" buffet. Is it that they lived through the depression- they want as much food as possible for their buck? My Nana even saves the styrofoam plate ground beef comes on then re-uses to give me brownies on.

Is it a generational thing or a family thing? What about your grandparents? Are they Golden Corral/Old Country Buffet/Chuck-a-Rama fans?

Awww, I miss Nana and don't even know when I'll see her next.

We went to Cici's pizza buffet during the family reunion. I'm all about buffets...love to pay one price for appetizers, salad, entree(s), drinks and desserts. Unfortunately I really try to get my money's worth and eat too much!

My Grandparents are the same way! That is so funny, I hadn't ever thought of that!

I don't think my grandma loves Chuck-A-Rama, but she has lived in Maryland her entire life and it's not like buffets are easy to find there. BUT my granddad's family, all native Utahns, love it. In fact, every year the "fancy" dinner portion of our family reunion is held at Chuck's. I've never gone but I'd imagine it's quite a sight.

Not all you can eat, but my Aunt Evelyn (and all KY relatives) LOVE Cracker Barrel

Remember all our Cortez trips to Golden Corral? I still think about their fried okra sometimes!

Roanoke has a Old Country Home place that my grandparents loved. That or this random Chinese food place... but when they lived in DC we would go to Hot Shoppes on Sunday. Breakin the sabbath, gotta love it!

My grandmother isn't with us anymore, but she did love an all-you-can-eat style restaurant. And she compulsively saved bread bags. She had 300 in the pantry at one point, we had to make her get rid of some of them.

I hadn't really done the buffet thing in a long time, but this past year we rediscovered Golden Corral and it's our current favorite with a 2 year old that goes on eating jags and a newly minted 1 year old who gets 90% of her food on the floor but insists on self-feeding.
