Found: Treasure at the DI

So, I went over to DI thrift store to see if I could find a plain white sheet for my halloween costume. They didn't have a white sheet (they did have 70's flower designs, stripes, & snoopy sheets, but no white ones)

Instead I came home with this... (picture in my hand is me wearing it as a kiddo)

Can you believe it?!?

That's the same Halloween costume as my favorite Rainbow Brite one growing up. It's made from this McCall's pattern in the 80's (pattern on the left, adorable baby Liv on the right)

Since Saturday, I've searched everywhere for the pattern but they are sold out everywhere.

Seriously though, what are the chances of finding one just like it? I happily paid the $5 for it & tried to explain to the cashier why I was so excited. He just nodded with a blank look on his face. But I'm in heaven!

I'm thinking I'm going to have my dad help me restore it for the ol' Syd-o. It was a happy day!

So, what are your favorite childhood Halloween costumes?

So cool! I think the original costume, which was made by your mom, went to Erin Brandvold when you grew out of it. I hope it was passed down to several other little girls, because it got great reviews by other jealous mothers(and also it was warm on cold Halloween nights).

I have a picture of me in that same costume... it wasnt mine, it was a friends that she let (actually her mom made her let) me wear. I thought it was the coolest thing ever because I LOVED Rainbow Bright. What a great find!!!

Erika- I know, didn't we all want to be Rainbow Brite?

Dad- I can't remember where mine went but I'm sure it got lots of use out of it.

Amber- such a great costume. I've got to fix it up for Syd-o!

April- I know wild. Just like it. Though you can tell it's not the same because the work is not as good as my parents sewing is.

Cindy- I know... isn't it wild. I'm sad I lost that blonde hair of mine!

I was Jem one year. My grandma made my costume. Every time I think of childhood halloween, I think of the year that I was Jem. Do you remember Jem and the Holograms? I loved that show. I never got to be Rainbow Brite, but I loved her.
