Love Songs

I've never really been a fan of love songs (I think I might have had a couple boyfriends who over used love songs to placate me) and I think there was a good chunk of time that I was a love song hater (a lot of them make me roll my eyes & say 'oh brother')

And then I met Scott. He never used music to convey his emotions. He used actions. My kind of fellow.

But there are times when a GOOD love song just hits you right in the gut. You know what I mean?

Here are my top 5 love songs:
1) Ben Harper - My Beloved One
2) Pearl Jam - Wishlist
3) Van Morrison - I'll be Your Lover Too
4) Flogging Molly - If I Ever Leave This World Alive
5) Sting - Fields of Gold

Why am I bringing up love songs if I'm secretly a romantic music hater?

I am in need of some "love songs" for some current writing inspiration. So, what are your favorite love songs? Doesn't matter what they are about just that you love them.

I'm going to look up & listen to every suggestion & who knows, you could be the one to break this strange little writing block I've been having (I'm writing around it, but I need something to kick start my brain again)

P.S. the last song to give my writing a lil' jolt was Monica- thanks again!
P.S.S. Current word count 3,302 (I'm behind I've got to nearly double that tomorrow. Major writing marathon will be happening at the library on Saturday)

Maybe not the most traditional love song, but the first thing that popped in my head was "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen, from the Highlander movie. Maybe that can help kick start some ideas.

I don't really know anything about your story, so I thought I would suggest some of my favorites, either for cheesiness or whatever:

Open Arms by Journey
Faithfully by Journey
At Last by Etta James
I Don't Know How to Let You Go by Sarah McLachlan (from Ryan)

I really love Stolen, by dashboard confessional and I'm not gonna lie, Incomplete by the Backstreet boys was on all of my playlists for awhile. Collide by Howie day is also good. Oh man... I just realized that all of these are from high school. I think I only listened to love songs when I had a major crush on someone.

So, mostly I listened to Kelly Clarkson sing about how much boys stink.

"With Me" by Sum 41 and "Your Guardian Angel" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are my picks :) Good luck!

Well since I have no idea who most of those bands are or their songs...here what was big in the 70's...Barry Manilow. Can't get any more sappy than him...but I love it.

Josh and I have somewhere in the neighborhood of a dozen "our songs", but most of them are about unrequited or failed love. Strange for an 11+ year relationship, right? Anyway, some of my faves:

Neil Young's "Harvest Moon" (duh, my blog name) and "Silver and Gold"
Paul McCartney's "Calico Skies"
Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You"
Bob Dylan's "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" (possibly my favorite love song ever)

Ben Folds "The Luckiest" is the greatest love song ever. I'm determined to walk down the aisle to it.

Liv, clearly I am outvoted on here - seeing as how most of my fav love songs are country. But here are some anyway.

-Because You Loved Me, Celine Dion
-It's Your Love, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
-Say It, Voices of Theory
-Then, Brad Paisley
-I Do, Jon Schmidt
-I Need You, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
-Wonderful Tonight, Eric Clapton
-That's How Love Moves, Faith Hill
-Better Together, Jack Johnson
-All I Need, Matt Kearney
-When You Lie Next To Me, Kellie Coffey

Oh dear, I kind of got carried away. At least you have options this way.

I second Erin's pick and add The Story by Brandi Carlile.

These are all decidely NOT cheezy and I think you'll love them.

"Who Knew?" by Pink
"Wedding Singer Song" by Adam Sandler
"Head Over Feet" by Alanis Morissette
"As Is" by Ani de Franco
"If I Had a Million Dollars" by Bare Naked Ladies
"Yellow" by Coldplay
"Fallin' for You" by Colbie Caillat

"500 Miles" by the Commitments
"This Year's Love" by David Gray
"See You Again" by Lenny Kravitz
"Melt with You" by Modern English

I am not a love song junky, but these songs are just good music, not sappy. I'm sure I can find more if you're still stuck after listening to all these.

How it ends - Devotchka
You are Goodbye - Holly Conlan
The Trial of the Century - French Kicks
Other side of the world - kt Tunstall
La dispute - Yann tiersen

Fairytale by Alexander Rybak:

"I'm in love with a fairytale, even though it hurts . . .
'Cause I don't care if I loose my mind.
I'm already cursed"

And:

Stroke 9: Kick Some A$$

"So don't lay another finger on her
She's mine and I still want her
If you put your hands upon her
You're a goner goner"

maybe it's just because i just heard it on the radio, but 'love story' by taylor swift is cute...okay, scratch that, jk! :)

but my favorite love song has gotta be 'i knew i loved you' by savage garden. yes, old school, i kno.

I think I've mentioned to you before how much I like Angels and Airwaves... one of my favorite songs is Breath. If the above web site works it's the video on youtube. I've never watched it. I don't know why I like this song so much... it's just a feel good kind of love song. I''m usually working out when I listen to this album and this song always makes me want to work harder! (I don't know if that's actually what your looking for....).
