My Lovely Holga

Film developing days are the best! I love my digital SLR but there is something magical about getting film back.

A roll of 35mm Holga adapter shots:

A roll of 120 B&W:

A roll of 120 color:

My brain has been having a creative overload lately.

There are about 800 projects I want to do right now, but because my brain can't focus on one I'm getting none of them done. Pillows for the new couch, places I want to photograph, home decor stuff, painting, writing- they're all sort of clanging up in my brain.

Does anyone have an advice on how to clean this muddled brain of mine? I probably just need to do something as simple as a list.

Keep a notebook nearby to write down your ideas and then pick one to work on for a fixed amount of time. After that time is up, decide if you are getting your energy from working on it and if so....give your self another chunk of time to work on it....as you have new ideas for projects....write them down (so you don't forget and you feel like by writing them down you are starting to work on them!) It works for me.....also....some ideas are best left percolating in your mind for a while until they burst forth and you can't help yourself from doing them.....Sometimes my ideas are more fun than the actual process of working on them!

yes, i think some of the pressure of trying to do everything will be lightened if you aren't responsible for having to remember every amazing idea that you have going on up there! list, fo sho.

A list. Yes. Have I not convinced you yet of the magical properties of the list? I actually stopped making a list to leave this comment.

Also, oh man, love these pics and they reminded me that I only have ONE roll of color 120 left. I've been thinking if I was an extravagant person I might buy a second Holga so I could always have one filled with color film and one filled with B&W. Maybe a third with 35mm? I mean, if we're already dreaming, might as well dream big.

yes! the memo app on my phone is my best friend. i make tons of lists. that's how i get things done :) having a creative place to get inspiration also helps. make a corner of your house your "inspiration spot", maybe a corkboard with printouts would work? i dunno, i'm just brainstorming now because it's what I have to do, too...

I think I have the same creative ADD. Too many ideas and not enough time or will power to get them all done. Your pictures are awesome! I love how artsy you are!

maybe a schedule for each day. if i actually put aside time for something, i can usually accomplish it. pick the most important/entertaining projects first.

I don't have muddled brain advice, but I just wanted to say I love your pictures.

You inherited the creative ADD from me, alas. We'll talk. In the meantime, I must tell you that these are some of the most incredible shots I've seen in a very long time. You GO, Girl!

Olivia, I LOVE your posts with Holga pics. I swear I could take a picture of the same exact thing and it wouldn't look nearly as good. It would just look boring and pedantic. You have a gift, girlfriend.

As for the creative ADD, sorry, I can't help you. I'm totally ADD too, b/c my memory is so bad that if I don't do s.th. right away I'll forget it. My only trick is to ignore email for 30-60 min at a time at work so I can get stuff done. Good luck!

Carolyn- I totally agree that some projects seem like more fun than actually getting them done.

Lyric- I just need to make them in more helpful places than on old receipts. :)

Jessica- We must have been separated at birth FOR REAL! I literally started typing on the Holga post that I wish I had two Holgas for the SAME REASON. That. Is. Wild.

anelieze- yes, the new place has an office where Scott has his desk & I have a little craft area. That might help!

Cody and Kylie- Glad you liked the pics. You are nice to me!

brooke- I like the "set aside creative time". That would TOTALLY HELP!

Katie- Aw... thanks!

Dad- Thanks. May have gotten my ADD from you but I also go my artistic eye.

M- Oh you are so nice to me! I should just shut the internet off. I'd write a lot more, that's for sure!

love the shots!

I'm not any help on organizing minds though.... I have been going stir crazy thinking of all the crafty type things I want to do when I get home!

Olivia Carter said...

Esther- I know! REALLY! Make me do it!

Kristal- Yes, come home & do creative stuff with me!

Beautiful photo's.
I have muddled craft brain overload too. I am having trouble sleeping, as the anxiety of all the craftiness that I MUST DO is keeping me up at night. I have a sketch book, blank, no lines. I write down ANYTHING that pop's into my head, how ever mundane. I can now sleep somewhat ;)
