Subtle Theme Decorating: BOYS ROOMS

I'm not the biggest fan of "themed room" in general. Kids rooms are okay to a degree, but I do like it a tad more subtle. Mostly I like the idea that toys & such on the shelves in the room reflect the theme.

PIRATE ROOM:

SPACE ROOM

1. Wooden solar system 2. Wooden space station (love these too)
3. Cloud shelf 4. Whimsical prints for the wall 5. Space pillows
6. Ray gun display 7. Constellation embroidery hoops 8. Star bedding

that ray gun display is awesome! Right now I'm trying to figure out a good girls room color scheme and theme.

I think the subtle thing is awesome. Super fun yet not so "i bought all of this at the same place' sorta thing.

I am the same way with the subtle theme. I don't want a bed that is a race-car, but some pillows and toys here and there, great!

I had a theme all planned for the boys room...painted it a certain color with it in mind, bought a few things, and then kind of fell out of love with the idea and never went anywhere past the paint....

Both great themes! I've been trying to figure out what I want to do with Jack's future room. He's really into fire engines right now. Maybe...

I like themed rooms to be subtle as well. That way when the kid grows you can switch it up without a total renovation! Luckily our previos owners did that with their son's rooms. One was a lizard room and one was a airplane room. We never changed the paint, but you would never know that they were total boy rooms and the girls sleep in those rooms now!
