5 STAR YA Book Recommendations

I've been asked a couple times for YA book recommendations & I've give a couple of my favs (here, here, here, & here) but it's been a while so I thought I'd highlight two more that I really love.

Ketura & Lord Death is a romantic, beautifully written story set in medieval times about a girl who comes face to face with death. Death comes to her in the form of a man and she makes a deal with him. If she can find her true love in one day he will let her live.

Shiver is about Grace who has been fascinated by a wolf that saved her when she was a child. Sam is that wolf. Long obsessed with each other at a distance, they finally meet after a wolf hunt sends a temporarily human Sam to Grace for help.

I actually listened to both of these in audiobook form too & LOVED THEM. Some audiobooks are just "okay". These two brought me to tears while listening to them (I cry when I read books but rarely when listening to them).

Has anyone read either of these? What did you think?
What are your favorite YA books?

I just finished listening to Dreamhunter on audio. I liked it but would like to read the words. I like to see how things are spelled, heheh.. the next book is Dreamquake. They are by Elizabeth Knox

I have read Shiver and really enjoyed it. On the audio book did they have two speakers? I loved that this book was written in female and male perspective.

Loved Hunger Games, like you mentioned. Working on a few of the other ones.

I read 13th Reality and Fablehaven. Easy breezy reads. Like I think I may even read these aloud to my kiddos in a year or two.

I have been hearing about shiver for awhile. This reminds me to request it at the library, as well as that first one. Thanks for the recommendations!

I'm a fan of the Septimus Heap series. Just finished Hunger Games (both of them) and loved them! Also love the Beka Cooper series or anything really by Tamora Pierce.

Great timing. I've started sitting next to the YA fiction during storytime and I was going to ask for suggestions.

Don't know if I already mentioned these, but two trilogies that are out of this world (well, one is at least) are Monica Furlongs "Wise Child," "Juniper," and "Colman." To be honest, I have yet to get my hands on a copy of Colmon as it's out of print and there's only one in the LA Library system. The other is Ann McCaffrey's "Harper Hall Trilogy." "Dragon Song" starts it off. I have probably read the five books once every four years since I was ten. I love them more after every read.

Shiver was edited by the woman who was a guest speaker at a writer's conference I attended at UVU. Her name is Abby Ranger (she is mentioned in the acknowledgments in the back of the book). Each writer's conf. attendee was given a sticker for one free admission from Abby. I sent the first thirty pages of my manuscript to Abby and was rejected with a lousy form letter :( yuck.
So, while reading Shiver I was mildly bitter at her (Abby--not the author).
I was really hard on the book while reading it and felt like the characters were poorly developed. With that being said, I read the book quickly and enjoyed it for the most part. The ending was a bit too smoothed over and perfect though...not that I didn't want that but it needed some kind of surprise or something. Couldn't put my finger on what exactly...just didn't totally "do it for me."
Whoa, is that enough info for ya?! Haha.
