Band of Sisters by Annette Lyon

Annette Lyon, who taught my writing class, just released a new book, Band of Sisters. A couple girls (Debbie & Susan) from the class & I went to show our support at the book launch party on Friday.

The story follows a group of five army wives while their husbands are deployed in Afghanistan. It's not the genre that I would normally read, however, I believe in not only supporting local authors but also trying out all sorts of books.

What about you guys- have you read any fabulous books lately?

That book sounds fabulous! Where might I find a copy? On Adam's side of the family, there are several members of the military, and they will be leaving their wives this next year. Thanks for sharing!

I'm reading a very good collection of stories, Portland Noir. About three years ago, when I lived in Washington, DC, I read DC Noir, an earlier book in the series, and loved it. I enjoy the fact that the stories take place in different parts of the city. When you know the city and its neighborhoods, the stories really come alive. Portland Noir is edited by Kevin Sampsell. If you are a fan of this genre (Maltese Falcon, for example), you'll love this series, which includes Manhattan Noir, Chicago Noir, and so on.

Your concealer is NOT too light. Maybe in the summer time... (I don't know about that though) but not now. :)

A book I enjoyed out of the typical genres that I read is "Outliers" by Malcolm Galdwell. Just very interesting.

I'm glad we all got to go out that night. I vote we do it again and this time make it longer. :) I read the book last week and really enjoyed it. I also just finished Fablehaven 2 and Courting Miss Lancaster. Both great books!
